Spot illustrations of various reptiles that went along with an illustrated background and title for Chickadee’s Reptile Awards spread.  It was a near little assignment that was fun to work on. The colors shown here are the original version; a more saturated version was used for the actual article.

This was a nice project for OWL and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The illustrations accompany a website about educating children about the recent earthquake in Haiti.

My client, Angela Moore, at Santa Fe Reporter was featured in ‘Great covers from the Santa Fe Reporter‘ on the Society of Publication Designers website. Thanks to Angela for including my cover for the magazine in her feature – it feels great to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the other illustrators who have done covers for the magazine.

Did this for the band Ideosphere for their album Black Hole Transmissions. The image is based on the idea of the ideosphere (look it up on Wikipedia).  The album, which has some fantastic sounding nu-metal progressive rock licks, is currently available for download on Bandcamp.

These were done for Best Health magazine for their New Year Resolutions article. From the top: taking up a dance class, getting a bra fitting (yes there is such a thing), and putting on sunscreen.

This is probably my favorite piece of work this year. A fullpage and spot for Penthouse, for their erotic fiction section. The piece was about a lady who enjoys diddling herself on planes. She gets found out by her hunky seat-neighbor, who proceeds to literally give her a helping hand. Perhaps not the most intelligent of stories, but certainly one of the more entertaining things for an illustrator to work on!

An illustration of a couple of noisy orcas or killer whales for Seattle Metropolitan. Fun as the pic was, the article was highlighting some serious problems about noise pollution that are affecting the whales. You can read the article here.

These were done earlier in the year for Acco Brands. A bunch of illustrators were asked to create designs for laptop skins, and these were the two I made. I’m not sure if they are available for sale yet, but if they are I’ll make an announcement!

The final days of free money

This was a fun little piece that was rushed out over a weekend. The article for Seattle Metropolitan was titled ‘The final days of free money‘ and it was about some financial incentives that were about to run out.  I just went with the concept the art director had as the time was very tight; we decided on Cinderella theme for the piece.

Santa Fe Reporter cover

Did this recently for Santa Fe Reporter, for their 2009 ‘Sweat’ issue. The art director wanted a kickboxing girl (since that is a feature article), and it so happened that I already had a girl in a kickboxing pose from an old illustration. I showed it to her and she was happy with reusing it, with some new elements in the background.

So this was the sketch for the cover. I was asked to do something dynamic, with Chinese dragons, so I came up with the dragon and various lines and elements behind the girl to make her look cooler. I asked for the masthead so that I could work the design around the main elements on the page.

This was the final art, without the masthead.
