Pics from The Deep Inside show

charlene

Went to The Deep Inside show yesterday, it was fun hanging out in the old Bloor cinema! That place is so old-skool. Someone burnt popcorn I think. Check out more photos and art on my Flickr, and pull out your 3D glasses!

P.S Limited edition prints of the artwork are on sale for $150 each. Each print is beautifully hand printed by Studio XIX and are signed and numbered by the artists. Prints are 18×24in. For more information or to purchase prints contact Rafi at Keep6 Contemporary.

New Yorker Eustace Tilley contest

tiley

Sorry for the lack of updates of late – I’ve been pretty sick with some kind of cold. On the bright side, I received a lovely email from the folks at the New Yorker informing me that my entry was selected for this year’s ‘Your Eustace’ contest. The contest was an open invitation to reintrepret the New Yorker’s mascot, which has quite the interesting history if you go read about it. Check out the other winners for this year’s contest on the New Yorker website.

New work for Las Vegas Weekly

final-lores

Happy New Year! What a way to end the year – this was done for the New Year’s edition of Las Vegas Weekly. It was a rush job that I got contacted for on Christmas (just like getting a present from Santa!).  The article is about people partyinh while sober, hence the whole deal with the clubbers holding bottled water. The article was in the print edition of the magazine and their online edition as well.

Apple

One of my rare traditional media pieces, done in color inks, india ink, color pencil and acrylic. You can see the enlarged sketch behind, which was transferred with transfer paper to 18×24 watercolor paper. The original sketch was in my sketchbook.

The finished ‘traditional’ artwork.

With a bit of Photoshop tweaking to the colors.

Clash of the Titans

This started as a sketch for a competition a website was running that involves movie monsters. Unfortunately I didn’t finish it in time for the deadline due to work. Now that I’ve got a bit more time, I decided to finish it up. Ink brush pen with digital colors.

Judgement

Playing around with Corel Painter. Sketched and painted in Painter, color tweaks in Photoshop. Click on it to see the large view with the textures etc.

Bunny Bouquet

Tired from working on vectors all day. So a non vector piece. The gallery show yesterday was great; the bunnies are kinda from a piece I saw there. Bunnies are fun. And headless deer. And Chirstina’s work is awesome; if you don’t like it then you should…urm… swallow leeches. Or something. I dunno I’m tired…

Long long ago…

I was asked to submit some stuff to MOCHA (Mueseum of Childrens Art) in Oakland, CA, for consideration into their Once Upon a Time show. The show features art by childrens book illustrator, and the art they created when they were kids.

These are some of my really old drawings and paintings, done when I was 12-14. Though most of my early works make me cringe these days, I personally am still fond of the underwater dragons one, which is going to be in the show. More details later.

9Tails colored

I think I like it… and Kristal gets the original inks, so too bad if you wanted it, nyeh nyeh…..

Ok, juvenile petulance aside (ah heck, who reads this anyway), other inks are still on Etsy for sale.

9 Tails

The idea was about fox spirits. According to legend fox spirits who live to over a thousand years old have 9 tails and are generally benign. Before this they are tricksters who sometimes shape shift into beautiful women to tempt and mislead men.
