Bunny Bouquet

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Tired from working on vectors all day. So a non vector piece. The gallery show yesterday was great; the bunnies are kinda from a piece I saw there. Bunnies are fun. And headless deer. And Chirstina’s work is awesome; if you don’t like it then you should…urm… swallow leeches. Or something. I dunno I’m tired…

Off to ICON illustration conference

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I will be joining some pals from my illustration group Sketch Motel in New York later this week for the ICON illustration conference at the Roosevelt hotel.

On Tuesday, 2nd July, there will be a roadshow at the hotel where various illustrators and illustration reps will be showing their work. Admission is free to art directors, designers, editors and art buyers. We have table there where we’ll be showing off our work, talking to art directors (hopefully) and dishing out postcards when not trying to make ninja stars out of them.

So… blog is going to be a bit slow for the next little while. Got sketches to scan, just haven’t gotten round to it. Work and the general tiredness persist.

Durr… feed…burn?

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I added some new plugin for making feeds. I have no idea what it does. Any explanations would be helpful. See, thing is, I don’t use feeds myself, I don’t know how they work, apart from that they show you new posts from the blogs you like. Somehow.

Simple

Another nude sketch.

I sometimes wish that we were back to the 1900s or so, when sex and sexuality, at least in art, were perceived differently. I think the society we live in is very prudish, to a hypocritical degree. Porn consumption is probably more rampant than ever, yet few people want to consider the erotic nude as art anymore. The nude is an abomination that society demonizes, which is a really unfortunate thing since, well – it’s us.

I sometimes wonder why I keep drawing the girls I do. Sometimes I think I should quit it and just draw something else that the public likes. Flowers. Animals. Cute yet edgy cartoons doing comically suggestive things. Yet none of these appeal to me. The female form in its simplest perfection forever will hold an allure; there is a rhythm and harmony to it. You can say what you want about objectifying women; conversely, does no one else find it strange that a woman cannot celebrate her sex without being thought of as lewd?

In my head at least, I’m not creating pictures for men to jerk off to. If some do titillate, well, that’s fine, I think it’s a natural reaction. It’s the same for me as seeing a nice sports car or a handsome man – the eye is drawn to what it likes and the body reacts. To take this to its extreme is not natural, but to deny it seems equally so. I’m not what I find more appalling – the Puritan mentality or the hypocritical way it’s applied.

Ugh. At any rate, the bottom line is that I don’t supposed my drawings will be accepted by the art scene in the near future. Perhaps by the time they no longer hold my interest, the tide will turn. That would be typical of the ironies of life.

The new..ish blog

zodikitty

Zodikitties welcome you to the new…ish blog! I’ve switched to Wordpress, and hopefully will continue with it for a while.

Most of these posts were imported from Blogger, and are still pulling images from that blog. As a result, looking at post summaries may be a bit weird, but just click the individual post and everything should show up fine.
