Penthouse Sep - Fullpage

Penthouse Sep - Spot

Work’s been great, terribly busy over the last few months. Haven’t had time to put up new stuff for a while, so getting the ball rolling again with these two for Penthouse. They are a bit risque, so I’ve cropped them – click on the thumbnails to see the whole image. These ARE meant to be erotic so you’ve been warned!

These two were for Penthouse’s erotic fiction article. The story was about a lady who goes to get her Macbook repaired and ends up having a fling with the three Apple store technicians.

It was a fun thing to work on. The ‘enter’ pic was actually my husband’s idea – I thought it was a little cheesy but it seemed to work well with the article. I was asked to eliminate any references to Apple in the imagery, which was fine. It struck me as a bit odd that it’s alright to name companies and brands in prose, but not so in graphics.

Anyway, hope you enjoy them. The next work-related stuff I’ll be posting will be educational (for kids… not that kind of education).

New scanner, new sketches

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Got a new scanner yesterday, so I can finally scan in some sketches I’ve been meaning to. These are from my sketchbook, not off the Cintiq. Which I guess is kinda a redundant point, since I wouldn’t have to scan in anything from the Cintiq now would I… (more…)

schoolgirl

Sketches for some new pinups I made for FanExpo at the end of the month. The ‘school’ series actually has 5 pinups but I’ve only had the time to do up these 3. And really, 3 is enough I think…

Armless

I like amputating people in sketches. Sometimes I feel that limbs just get in the way. Pink and grey marker.

Another nude sketch.

I sometimes wish that we were back to the 1900s or so, when sex and sexuality, at least in art, were perceived differently. I think the society we live in is very prudish, to a hypocritical degree. Porn consumption is probably more rampant than ever, yet few people want to consider the erotic nude as art anymore. The nude is an abomination that society demonizes, which is a really unfortunate thing since, well – it’s us.

I sometimes wonder why I keep drawing the girls I do. Sometimes I think I should quit it and just draw something else that the public likes. Flowers. Animals. Cute yet edgy cartoons doing comically suggestive things. Yet none of these appeal to me. The female form in its simplest perfection forever will hold an allure; there is a rhythm and harmony to it. You can say what you want about objectifying women; conversely, does no one else find it strange that a woman cannot celebrate her sex without being thought of as lewd?

In my head at least, I’m not creating pictures for men to jerk off to. If some do titillate, well, that’s fine, I think it’s a natural reaction. It’s the same for me as seeing a nice sports car or a handsome man – the eye is drawn to what it likes and the body reacts. To take this to its extreme is not natural, but to deny it seems equally so. I’m not what I find more appalling – the Puritan mentality or the hypocritical way it’s applied.

Ugh. At any rate, the bottom line is that I don’t supposed my drawings will be accepted by the art scene in the near future. Perhaps by the time they no longer hold my interest, the tide will turn. That would be typical of the ironies of life.
