More fashion sketches

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Couple of fashion type sketches I did some time ago. They are tests for moving the ink style towards fashion. Not quite right yet, if anyone wants to comment on them be my guest.

This post is also to test cross posting to my new Tumblr account, which I still don’t really understand but am told that I should use, apparently.

Fashion sketches

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Did this last night, just for fun. I thought it would be fun to pretend to do fashion illustration, and I actually quite enjoyed drawing these. I was sort of thinking about what clothes I would like to have if I actually could sew (or had oodles of money sitting around).

I’ve never thought of myself as much of a fashion person, and I don’t think I will ever really get fashion. But it was a fun exercise to do these up, and I liked having something different to concentrate on (usually I focus on the figure first).

Click on the image if you want to see the sketches in larger detail.

Zoo sketches

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Went to the Toronto Zoo a couple of weeks ago with some friends, and we had a great day just drawing the animals. It was rather so most of the animals seemed to be rather inactive, which made it easier for us to draw them. Below are more sketches of various critters: (more…)

Lucid Media – Atom Egoyan

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Did this recently for Lucid Media. It’s the cover for the issue featuring Canadian director Atom Egoyan. The illustration isĀ  portrait of him, with characters from his various movies woven into his hair. the watermark background is based off Armenian patterns in recognition of his heritage.

Here’s the work as it appeared (the inner black and white spot was another cover concept that we decided to use for the article instead):

Here were the roughs I did. I normally don’t do color roughs, but decided to for this one:

Spring is here!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Spring is here! Happy Spring! This piece went out as a email promo with the message ‘spring cleaning is good for your soul’. Below are some of the rough concepts I drew up beforehand – thank you to everyone who gave their input!

Princess

Monday, October 5th, 2009
princessx600

princess

Finally colored her up over the weekend. Brush pen with colors in Photoshop.

Interesting story behind the piece, originally she had a face but while I was inking her I realized that the piece had a lot more meaning for me if I removed it. The idea of ‘princess’ is floating around in my head and I may or may not do something with it – depends if and when I get the time to work on anything of my own again. Alas, these days I’m lucky to be able to do an ink drawing or two before I have to get back to work-work.

The Knife, WIP

Monday, September 7th, 2009

This is another brush image I’m working on for myself. I have an on-again, off again motif of girls with swords going through them, and this is the latest incarnation of that. Final colors to come, depending on when I get the time.

Closeup with pencil. You can see the original brushwork is not complete black.

Finshed inks, scanned and cleaned in Photoshop.
