Traditional Thursday, Jan 26

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Sophia Lauren, watercolor, acrylic ink, color pencil.

Mostly traditional… I ended up having to fix a lean in Photoshop and touched up some details.

God of War, illustration

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Finally had some time yesterday to work on something not work related. Since God of War 3 is out today, I thought this was a suitable celebration.  Technically the image should be flipped to accommodate Kratos’ (the dude in the white circle) red tattoos on the other arm. I decided to make the color scheme orange instead of red, since  a lot of art based off the game features red and black. Orange seemed like something high energy which is something I wanted to emphasize over the violence and blood apparent in the game.

Top is final color work, bottom is the sketch on 8.5×11 paper.

Cards for clients

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I decided that this year, I was going to send clients something to thank them for their business once projects were wrapped. I was thinking about doing a printed card, but the idea of sending the same card to a client more than once didn’t seem nice, and I didn’t want to have several different designs lying about the house. I was also thinking of a Print Gocco thing but it’s an expensive little thing that is also pretty tedious if you’re just making one card.

Then I remembered that they sold little DIY cards at the art store and thought ‘why don’t I just paint cards for them?’. It’s great – my clients will get a little piece of real art, and I don’t have to worry about anyone getting a repeat design. And I’ve been meaning to paint more anyway, so it’s a nice way to sneak in a bit of painting now and then!

So here are the first two I’ve done that will be going out soon. The inks were done with a brush pen, with watercolors for color.

Fox & Rabbit

Monday, January 4th, 2010

gouache painting of fox and rabbitHappy New Year! I found some time to play with some really old gouache paint over the new year. It was a lot of fun, though I’m not very familiar with the medium. Hoping to get more colors and make more paintings!

Crow, ink and watercolor sketch

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

crow

Sketch of crow. Ink pen and watercolor. I think I need a new scanner to scan anything that’s not black and white. This one is making my browns look purple and neon-ish. This was the best I could do to adjust the color in Photoshop to look like the original.

Apple

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

One of my rare traditional media pieces, done in color inks, india ink, color pencil and acrylic. You can see the enlarged sketch behind, which was transferred with transfer paper to 18×24 watercolor paper. The original sketch was in my sketchbook.

The finished ‘traditional’ artwork.

With a bit of Photoshop tweaking to the colors.

Teenage witch

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Was trying to do a draw-off with a friend and record the work on the computer, but I hit the wrong button when I  was almost done and it didn’t save a thing. Quite sad. At least the artwork is fine. The ‘ghost’ is not really finished but I’m a bit too bummed to fix it right now.
