Modern Mandrake sketch

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

I was playing around with my more stylized style, and got into thinking about concepts like earth mother, gaea and mothering in general. It made sense to me to tie the stuff together in a picture that suggests that we in turn mother the earth when we do care for it.

My husband finds it slightly disturbing though.

The mandrake is a plant whose roots can resemble vague semblences to humans. It was pruportedly used in magical and pagan rituals. It was also in Pan’s Labyrinth – you know the creepy thing she stuck in a pan under the bed and fed milk and blood to.

HR Professional WIP

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I’m reorganizing the blog, and so I’m re-porting the work in progress sketches for the HR Professional article.

Here was the original sketch, and some other ideas I pitched to the editor. I quite liked the one with the words going into the head, but the one they picked was nice too. The article was about basic financial terms for people in the human resource industry.

Zero

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Zero is our cat. He’s scared of everyone and everything, so he tends to disappear whenever people pop by. Many people ask if he’s real. He is. Barely. But when he does show himself to me and my husband, he is the sweetest thing in the world.

At least till he starts chewing the plastic bags.

Subprime crisis

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I guess anyone who hasn’t been asleep under a rock for the last couple of weeks is well aware of the trouble some of the major banks are going through. It seemed like an interesting thing to illustrate, so I did up a sketch. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory. Maybe a bit too funny for the situation. But on the other hand, sometimes laughter is the only thing that keeps us sane through the tough times. Will do it up shortly.
